High Performance Driver Education

High Performance Driver Education is a step up from typical autocross programs. The speeds can be considerably higher than with autocross and venue is almost always a real race track rather than a cone-outlined course in a parking lot. Along with the higher speeds comes responsibility for yourself and your equipment, and for others who will be on the track at the same time you are. Consequently, we make a major effort to provide safety and skills training in both classroom and with a personal instructor who is assigned to each new driver.

We hold several HPDE events each year, usually in conjunction with Time Trial and Race events. HPDE requirements mean you can use any safe street car with a minimum of additional safety equipment. Open cars, however, must have functional roll over protection and everyone must have some personal safety equipment. This includes a helmet, gloves, eye protection and fire resistant (natural fiber) clothing. In addition, all cars and drivers must pass a technical and safety inspection before they are allowed onto the track.

In the HPDE program emphasis is on driver training with respect to the safe operation and handling of a car at elevated speeds. No competitions or timing is allowed. If that is what you want, our Time Trial program is where you belong. Passing is allowed only on specified straights and only with a point-by. As already noted, new drivers must attend classroom sessions and are allowed on track only with their assigned instructor until reaching being certified for solo driving. Agressive driving is not tolerated.
